The Centre for cancer care

Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology NHS Foundation Trust

Top rating for cancer centre for second year running!

Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology has received the highest rating in an independent assessment carried out by the Care Quality Commission for the second year running.

The Care Quality Commission has rated the Centre as ‘Excellent’ for its quality of services and ‘Excellent’ for its use of resources.

The Commission’s annual health check is the most comprehensive assessment of performance ever undertaken in the NHS.

The ratings go from ‘excellent’, ‘good’, ‘fair’ or ‘weak’. One rating covers the quality of services, measured against the government’s core standards and national targets; the other relates to the use of resources, measured against how well finances are managed.

The Care Quality Commission report stated: “Based on our assessment for 2008/09, the quality of services provided by Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology NHS Foundation Trust for its local population was ‘excellent’. The financial management rating for this organisation is ‘excellent’, as this foundation trust has assessed as performing strongly with a relatively low financial risk.”

The Trust is committed to providing the highest standard of care to patients and this score reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment that is being delivered across the organisation.

Acting Chief Executive Andrew Cannell said: “This is a challenging assessment and we are absolutely delighted to achieve the highest rating for the second year running. Over the last year we’ve taken steps to make further service improvements and it is extremely encouraging to see this reflected in this year’s results.

“Our vision is to provide outstanding cancer care and achieving the highest score from the Care Quality Commission for two years running means we are closer to achieving our goal.”
Earlier in the year Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology received another accolade when they scored amongst the best performing NHS Trusts across England according to the Care Quality Commission’s in-patient survey for 2008.

Results published in May rated the Centre within the country’s 20% best performing trusts in 85% of the questions.

The results recognised the cleanliness of the cancer treatment centre wards and scores for confidence in consultants and nurses at the Trust were identified as among the highest in the country.
