Oncology Pharmacy
The Oncology Pharmacy department’s core business is the production of sterile chemotherapy products for patients at the Centre, satellite clinics and private patients.
The department employs 33 staff of various grades, including support staff, pharmacy technicians and pharmacists, all working within a purpose built facility that houses 5 isolators and a gene therapy isolator.
Other services include the organisation and management of clinical trials, such as the recent self-medication project, and a ward pharmacy service.
Here, we assess patients’ own medication that is brought in and use it on the wards where possible. Patients are also assessed to see if they can self-administer their own medications whilst they are on the ward.
The ward pharmacy service was recently presented with an internal organisation award in recognition of the work being carried out on the wards for patients and staff at the Centre.
