Research Governance
What is research governance?
Research governance can be defined as a broad range of legal and regulatory requirements, guidelines and principles that exist to ensure health and social care research is conducted to the highest possible scientific and ethical standards and to ensure that these standards are continuously reviewed and improved upon.
The Department of Health published a framework, describing the governance arrangements for Health and Social Care Research in 2001 and a revised version in 2005. You can access the framework here:
